I searched in the forum, but it does not seem to me that the subject has already been addressed...
And now we have a english forum so why not in english ?

Maybe it's a stupid question but is this most of passengers of Titanic knew swim ? We know Charles Joughin was a good swimmer, but the others ?
And for the crew of Titanic... Was it mandatory to know how to swim for hire by White Star Line (and others companies in this period) or not ?

It's really strange to speak in english on this forum!!! I think a lot of people didn't know swim but thanks to the life jackets, they could survive even if we know the weather was really bad the night of the 15th April. For people who were aboard the ship, their destiny was different....and they drowned...

Some passengers who used the pool were probably "happy" to know to swim, during the sinking!
But, the cold killed. Not the drown...

I'm not sure, really...

If there was a swimming pool on the ship, then I believe some passengers knew how to swim...

As for the cew of the ship, I believe it was mandatory to know how to swim.

It's just my opinion so I have no idea...

Perhaps it was true for the deck officers, but I think many others members of the crew could not swim.
This activity was still the preserve of the wealthy classes at that time, at least as a sport and leisure.

For example, I'm reading an autobiography of an islandman who lived on Great Blasket in Ireland between 1850 and 1930.
He says that even if all men lived from the sea and were always in their boats, the majority of them didn't know how to swim...
